Building a timeline around the light

planning a day by the sun.

How to plan your ceremony, portraits and dinner around sunset — wherever in the world you are marrying.

The single most useful thing you can do for your photographs is decide your ceremony time after you have looked up sunset. Everything else falls into place around it.

Work backwards from sunset

I like portraits to finish about ten minutes after the sun goes down. Count back ninety minutes from there and you have your ideal ceremony window.
