On florals that move in the wind

a love letter to loose stems.

Why the most photogenic arrangements are the ones that are allowed to sway — and how to talk to your florist about it.

Tight, domed arrangements photograph like sculptures. Loose, seasonal stems photograph like weather — and weather is what makes an outdoor wedding feel alive.

Ask for movement

When you brief your florist, ask for tall grasses, trailing clematis, anything that will catch the breeze. Then let the wind do the styling.

My favourite frames from this summer are bouquets half out of focus, mid-sway, with the dress moving the other way.
